Eastward Ho!

Follow my adventures as I embark on a journey of a lifetime. I'll be overlanding from London to Darwin for six months, experiencing many countries and cultures along the way. From Australia, I'll continue east around the globe until I end up back at the beginning, just in time for Christmas dinner. That's the plan anyway, whether I stick to that plan is a different story...........

Bye bye beautiful Bude

Today is my last day in the town that has been my home for the last seven years.  I'm quietly reflecting on those seven years and wondering how they passed by so fast. My flat is being rented out and I have no plans to return to Bude after my travels, so I'm sure there will be a tear or two shed as I head down the A30 for the final time in a long while.  It's been a busy last few weeks, firstly with sorting out the dreaded visa applications pre departure, then fitting in the last of the vaccinations, of which my last is in a couple of hours (yay!).

I also had an operation last week to have a grommet fitted in my right ear and a biopsy taken of some tissue behind my nose.  I was then signed off work for a week which took me past my last official day!  So no more work for me! The plus side of my op means that I can now hear perfectly well, the downside is no swimming or diving, not the best news when I'm off on my holidays for eight months!

Last Saturday was my bon voyage leaving do, the theme was dressing up with anything to do with the letter 'L', so I decided to go as Lisa Simpson.  Big mistake, as three days later I am still a slight shade of yellow and looking a tad radio-active.  It was a fun night, with a variety of costumes, lots of laughs and a few tears.
